Why Is Bamboo Better For The Environment?

 

 

There are many claims that bamboo is better for the environment but why exactly are scientists, environmentalists, and agriculturists making these claims?

It important to note that bamboo has a long history of economic and cultural significance, primarily in East Asia and Southeast Asia where it has been used for centuries for everything from building material to food to medicine. There are over 1,000 different species of bamboo growing in very diverse climates throughout the world.

Bamboo's environmental benefits arise largely out of its ability to grow quickly—in some cases three to four feet per day—without the need for fertilizers, pesticides or much water. That's pretty amazing, right?

Strand woven bamboo flooring is the Rolls Royce of bamboo flooring!
 

It is the latest in bamboo flooring technology, it is manufactured by shredding and compressing bamboo fibres under exceptional heat and pressure into solid blocks of bamboo. Out of these blocks, the bamboo flooring planks are sliced, sanded and profiled into either tongue and groove or clicked types and then sealed with up to eight layers of UV cured coatings.

I assume if you are anything like me when you first saw composite decking and heard that it was eco-friendly, you would have thought yeah right! Spin me another one.

I personally decided to make it my quest to find out more about how this decking was made, so I flew to the factories and learned first hand. I wanted to see the whole process right from when the bamboo was cultivated to when the decking comes together. The term eco-warrior is defined as a person actively involved in preventing damage to the environment. The majority of us care about our impact on the environment and want to try and conserve the planet for our kids and their kids. These aspirations seem lofty and it can feel like a losing battle at times.

Deforestation can also be seen as the removal of forests leading to several imbalances ecologically and environmentally and results in declines in habitat and biodiversity. Urbanisation, hardwood production, mining, fires, logging and agricultural activities are few of the causes of deforestation.
