Our bamboo floor was installed 15 months ago. Despite our initial misgivings regarding durability, it is still beautiful and has survived the spills and splashes from the sink and dishwasher extremely well. It was obviously mopped up timeously and not allowed to stand.

The dog has lost it on numerous occasions doing ‘four-paw’ drifts around the corners to attend to urgent issues like feeding and getting outside to the gate – fast. The floor has taken it in it’s stride and while the noise generated is impressive, the scratches on the floor need serious inspection to be seen.

I can recommend it with confidence in high traffic areas. There is no need to be neurotic, just sensible! Johan Versfeld

With their bid for a world title in October firmly in their sights, the crew of Ant Stott and Graeme Solomon will look to the Hansa Breede Canoe Marathon to test their speed, power and endurance this weekend.

“I really hope it is a very tough, competitive race because it is at just the right time in our build-up to the world marathon champs,” Stott said on Thursday.

“We have entered the Breede to win it, make no mistake about it.”

Stott, who has won the Breede race twice before, with Len Jenkins and Martin Dreyer, was pleased with the progress he had made with Solomon.

“Every time we get into the boat together it just feels right and really solid,” said Stott.

“The boat just seems to glide, far more so than any other paddler I have raced with.

“I am hoping that 2011 will make up for all the disappointment from our bid for the world championships K2 title last year.”

The duo were derailed by a technical failure of their steering system just minutes before the start of last year’s global championships.

“We never got a chance to prove what we were capable of, which was really frustrating,” Stott said.

“However, we are back and hungrier than ever to prove a point.”

How to Take Care of Your Bamboo Warehouse Floor

To avoid dust and dirt being walked onto your Bamboo Warehouse floor, it is recommended to place a non abrasive rug or mat at the entrance to the room to collect sand, moisture and grit.

To help guard against the possibility of scratches and dents, place protective pads under furniture legs and chairs.

If your Bamboo Flooring is adjacent to an exterior door then place doormats outside at the entrance to keep dirt and grit from being tracked inside.

Be sure to clean shoes and entry mats well.

If scratches do occur, then a product called RUSTIN SCRATCH remover can be used to cover them up. If the scratches are very deep, a light sanding and re-sealing is advisable. If a sanding and re sealing is ever needed, the best product to use is called “Bono traffic water based sealer”. Please contact us for more info on purchasing these products.

Make sure any carpets or mats placed on your Bamboo Warehouse floor are both colour-fast and non-scratch.

Bamboo Warehouse flooring has UV protection in its pre-finish, however it is still advisable to avoid excessive direct sunlight exposure for your Bamboo Warehouse floor, as colour changes may occur due to the natural sugars found in bamboo. Therefore blinds and curtains are a good idea over windows espacially if xour windosw face the heat of the sun.

Do not leave pot plants on your Bamboo Warehouse floor in case of water leakage. Always place a catchment tray underneath the pot plant.

Care & Maintenance

As with any solid wood or pre-finished product, maintenance is crucial to the longevity and appearance of your floors!
It is with this in mind that it is most advisable to take note of the following:

Cleaning Your Bamboo Warehouse Floor

Do not use harsh chemical cleaning products on your Bamboo Warehouse floor

The best way to clean your Bamboo Warehouse floor is to mix ¼ cup white vinegar into a standard spray bottle filled with water and shake to mix the solution. Spray the liquid lightly onto a soft cloth lined mop attachment and clean floor.

Avoid traditional wet soaked mop on your Bamboo Warehouse floor as the excess water could damage and stain the bamboo. Should an accidental spill occur, blot immediately with a soft clean cloth.

Spills and tracked in dirt can be cleaned by dust mop or a lightly dampened mop. Oils from asphalt driveways or roads will tend to leave a stain.

To clean a sticky mark off your Bamboo Warehouse floor, it is safe to use a commercial hardwood cleaning product to spot clean the the stubborn dirt. Use a soft clean cloth to rub.

Do not use Steel wool, scouring powder, abrasive cleaners or detergents on you bamboo flooring. Grease, tar or oil can be removed with a cloth that is dampened with light mineral spirits. This usually lifts lipstick, crayon and most rubber scuffs also.

Grit, dust and dirt should always be removed as gently as possible to avoid potential surface scratching.

A good quality dust mop or vacuum head is the most effective tool for cleaning dust and dirt off of the floor. The cleaner head must be brush or felt. To keep your floors looking their best, vacuum clean or dry mop at least twice a week to remove loose dirt or grit before it can scratch the surface of your floors.

Do not wax, steam clean or polish your bamboo flooring.

[Taken from www.canoesa.org.za > Gameplan Media]

Ant Stott (front) and Graeme Solomon slide down the Secunda weir at an angle while Pierre-Andre Rabie and Andrew Birkett take the straighter line in a recent pre-Hansa Breede marathon race. (Lisa Scott/ Gameplan Media)

Cape Town – With their bid for a world title in October firmly in their sights the crew of Ant Stott and Graeme Solomon will be looking to the Hansa Breede marathon as a litmus test for their speed, power and endurance in the heat of the marathon racing battle.

“I really hope it is a very tough, competitive race because it is at just the right time in our build-up to the world marathon champs,” said Stott, who has won the Hansa Breede marathon title twice before, with Len Jenkins and Martin Dreyer. “We have entered the Hansa Breede to win it, make no mistake about it.”

It is his partnership with Solomon that he speaks of so highly, despite the fact that they live in opposite corners of the country. Stott operates the Durban branch of Solomon Bamboo Warehouse and says their regular business meetings in Cape Town allows them to train together throughout the year.

“Every time we get into the boat together it just feels right and really solid,” says Stott. “The boat just seems to glide, far more so than any other paddler I have raced with. I am hoping that 2011 will make up for all the disappointment from our bid for the world championships K2 title last year.”

On that occasion the impeccably prepared duo was derailed by a technical failure of their steering system just minutes before the start of the race. “We never got a chance to prove what we were capable of, which was really frustrating. However we are back and hungrier than ever to prove a point.”

Stott prizes his partner Solomon for his ability to dig deep when the going gets tough. “He is not afraid of pain,” says Stott. “He has won on a low Berg so he is a hardcore athlete.”

As one of the biggest and heaviest of the elite men in the field, and with a forecast of a moderately low river, Stott and Solomon can expect to work hard for any successes on the Breede river this weekend.

“It looks like there will be lots of long heavy grinds on the race, which is exactly what we want as it will be a great base for our fitness for the world champs,” says Stott.

“We are expecting a very competitive race with crews like Pierre-Andre Rabie and Andy Birkett, Lance King and Heinrich Schloms, and the crew Edgar Boehm and Ali Glass who gave us a proper working over in a few sessions on a pre-Breede race,” said Stott.

“The Breede is an awesome race,” he added. “It is not too technical and has long pools and just enough rapids to make it an interesting river race. There are plenty of channels, especially on a low river, but my partner has been racing the Breede for twenty years so he should know the channels by now,” said Stott.

The Hansa Breede River Canoe Marathon gets under way outside Robertson on Saturday 3 September and ends outside Swellendam on Sunday 4 September.
